FIELD: electrical communication engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a valve and in particular to methods and apparatus for wireless communication of a valve and a controller in a process control system. Wireless position transducer for a valve in a process control system converts a motion or a position of an actuator of the valve into a wireless signal including a value indicative of the position of the actuator. Transducer causes the wireless signal to be transmitted over a wireless communication channel to a valve controller, such as by using a wireless HART protocol. Wireless communication channel is an exclusive connection between the transducer and the controller, and the transducer is powered by a local rechargeable energy storage device. Controller controls the valve based on the value included in the wireless signal. Transducer may also cause the wireless signal to be transmitted to a control host of the process control system.
EFFECT: invention enables to minimise the influence of erroneous signals caused by electrical noise in wires, as well as unfavorable environmental conditions.
