FIELD: control of field devices.

SUBSTANCE: for this purpose, disclosed is a system for monitoring field devices operating in a process installation, comprising: a remote terminal unit (RTU) connected to multiple field devices, each of which is made with possibility to perform corresponding function in process installation; and a node located remotely from the RTU and connected to the RTU through the communication network. RTU comprises: (i) a first interface module configured to exchange data in accordance with an industrial automation protocol, by means of which RTU receives data indicating corresponding states of field devices; (ii) memory for storing obtained data and (iii) a second interface module, configured to exchange data with remote nodes through a communication network. Unit is configured to (i) request state of field devices and (ii) receive from RTU status information based on data stored in memory RTU.

EFFECT: technical result is reduced volume of traffic in network and high accuracy of monitoring field devices.
