SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of activating a wireless field device. The method of activating a wireless field device comprises steps of: connecting, with the possibility of transmitting data, a portable onsite maintenance tool with the wireless field device to obtain an identifier of the wireless field device; selecting a wireless network; performing wireless data transmission between the portable onsite maintenance tool and a wireless gateway to automatically obtain a connection key for the identifier of the wireless field device; recording the connection key in the wireless field device using the portable onsite maintenance tool and automatically adding the identifier of the wireless device to a wireless gateway access control list.
EFFECT: enabling automation of the process of maintaining a wireless field device.
