FIELD: pharmaceutics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to pharmaceutical composition of sildenafil citrate in the form of an aqueous suspension for oral administration. Composition includes sildenafil citrate, xanthan gum, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose and water as sole suspension medium. Composition does not contain an organic solvent. Composition may contain an acidulant, a preservative and a sweetener. Composition has pH of from 1.5 to 5.0. Described also is a method of preparing the composition. Composition of sildenafil citrate in form of a suspension is acceptable for oral administration to treat male erectile dysfunction.
EFFECT: aqueous slides of sildenafil citrate containing a combination of hypromellose and xanthan gum as suspending agents, provide satisfactory organoleptic properties with effective masking of the bitter taste of sildenafil citrate; they are also stable both chemically and physically.
