FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an apparatus for purifying aluminum-containing chloride solutions from iron. Device comprises an electrolytic bath located in a metal box on the side faces of which are height-adjustable electrodes, a flowing water heater whose input and output are connected by a water supply channel with a metal box, a current source connected by busbars to the electrodes, a preparatory vessel whose output is connected to the input of the electrolysis tank, and a collecting vessel whose input is connected to the outlet of the electrolysis bath, the input opening of the electrolysis bath is made in the upper part of the small side face, the output opening of the electrolysis bath is made in the lower face, and the acidity and temperature meter is placed on the larger side face of the electrolysis bath.
EFFECT: high productivity is ensured due to the circulation cleaning of the solution to the desired iron content in the solution to obtain a solution of aluminum chloride with an iron content of less than 0,05%, which can be subjected to salting out of the solution with hydrochloric acid and to obtain crystals AlCl3⋅6H2O, which can later be used to produce metallurgical alumina.
