FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to producing sorbent based on thermally expanded graphite having ferrimagnetic properties. Method of producing sorbent based on thermally expanded graphite (TEG), modified by a magnetic ferrite phase, comprises impregnating intercalated graphite particles with an aqueous solution of salts containing a ferric iron salt and a divalent metal salt with a content of 2.5 to 25 wt% of each of said salts. Said salts are selected from the group of salts capable of decomposition in the temperature range from 500 to 1,200 °C to iron oxide (III) and metal oxide (II). Then, the impregnated intercalated graphite particles are separated, the solid phase is dried to a free-flowing state and thermally treated at a temperature of 500–1,200 °C.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to obtain a sorbent with improved performance characteristics due to a uniform distribution of the magnetic phase over the surface of the sorbent, increased magnetic phase content in the TEG, and increased magnetic properties, as well as simplified technology by performing synthesis in an air atmosphere in the absence of a reducing agent.
