FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to making carbon materials with controlled physical and chemical properties: specific surface area, sorption capacity, density, gas permeability, strength, and can be used in chemical industry for making graphite foil, sorbents and gas separation membranes. The method of making cellular graphite modified with iron triad metal oxides involves anodic treatment of graphite to obtain intercalated graphite in aqueous electrolyte solutions containing at least one iron triad metal nitrate in amount not exceeding 50 wt % of the mass of electrolyte, with quantity of electricity per mass of graphite ranging from 140 to 830 A·h/kg and subsequent thermal treatment for foaming. Cellular graphite obtained using the said method is thermally expanded graphite with uniformly distributed agglomerates of iron triad metal oxides with average diametre not exceeding 20 mcm.
EFFECT: obtaining material with a highly developed surface and uniformly distributed oxide particles.
