SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine, specifically to a selection system and a method for generating selection data. Medical image selection system for generating selection data contained in an imaging device, and a medical data processing system for performing follow-up examination of a patient contained in a workstation, comprise a device and a processor for performing a method for generating medical image selection data comprising steps of enabling a user to set a selection of one or more medical images from a plurality of medical images contained in an image archiving system, to set one or more medical images as initial images for use in follow-up examination of the patient. Selection data indicative of said selection are generated. Metadata are included in the selection data, which enable to associate the selection data with a plurality of medical images. Selection data are presented to a medical data processing system separate from the medical image selection system, allowing the medical data processing system to obtain, based on the selection data, one or more medical images from the image archiving system for use as source images during follow-up examination of the patient. Systems also comprise a communication network for transmitting medical images and a computer-readable medium, which stores a computer program product containing instructions which, when executed by the processor system, compels the processor system to execute said method.

EFFECT: group of inventions enables to select one or more medical images in a medical selection system which is separate from the medical image processing system.
