FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of zirconium through molten electrolyte electrolysis. Molten electrolyte electrolysis is carried out using, as starting salts, potassium fluorozirconate, potassium chloride and zirconium tetrafluoride while controlling the amount of electricity, electrolyte temperature, electrolyte composition. Electrolyte composition is maintained by taking electrolyte samples to determine its composition by the concentrations of zirconium and chlorine. Calculated mass of the charge of potassium fluorozirconate and potassium chloride is determined and they are loaded into an electrolysis cell. In the second variant of the process, potassium fluorozirconate, potassium chloride, sodium chloride and zirconium tetrafluoride are used as the starting salts, and in the third – potassium fluorozirconate, potassium chloride, sodium chloride, magnesium chloride and zirconium tetrafluoride. Calculated mass of loading potassium fluorozirconate and potassium chloride, as well as sodium chloride and magnesium chloride is determined using design formulae. In the fourth variant of the process, potassium fluorozirconate, potassium chloride and sodium chloride are used as the starting salts.

EFFECT: method makes it possible to increase the extraction of zirconium.
