FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the method of producing 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-benzoquinone (I) used as a highly active antioxidant, plant growth regulator and stimulant, and pharmaceutical intermediates. The method consists in the oxidation of 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol (II) with a 35% aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide H2O2 in the presence of a titanosilicate catalyst. Herewith a mesoporous amorphous titanosilicate with a molar ratio of Si/Ti=20÷80, taken in the amount of 2.5÷10 wt % based on the reaction mass, the reaction is carried out at a molar ratio of phenol II:H2O2=1:2÷4 in acetonitrile CH3CN, with an initial concentration of phenol II in CH3CN 0.1÷0.4 mol/l, at a temperature of 25÷60°C and a duration of 0.5÷2 hours.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to produce I with high selectivity and high yield.
