FIELD: electrical engineering; machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical machine building, in particular to a device for braking and damping of torsional vibrations. Metal electrodes are supplied with voltage, they create a retarding electric field, which is associated with a mobile element rotating in a dielectric liquid medium, structured in an electric field by finely dispersed particles of a dielectric liquid medium, increasing its viscosity. With a low value of the field strength, the viscosity of the dielectric liquid medium is increased by applying a high voltage to the electrodes, thereby amplifying the electric field, acting on the dielectric fluid medium, change its viscosity and inhibit the damper, in which, as a mobile element, a tapered movable member of a conductive material is used, placed in a sealed dielectric housing filled with a dielectric liquid medium and equipped with a system for adjusting the angle of inclination of the electrodes relative to the normal to the surface of the movable member and the magnitude of the air gap between the electrodes and the surface of the movable member.
EFFECT: regulation of the magnitude of the torque of the electrostatic damper.
