FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process and a catalyst for simultaneous removal of carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides contained in flue or exhaust gases. Method includes introducing ammonia and/or its precursor into flue or exhaust gases, converting the precursor, if any is used, into ammonia, and contacting gas and ammonia at temperatures up to 350°C with a layered catalyst containing, in the gas flow direction, an upper first catalyst bed with an oxidation catalyst consisting of palladium, vanadium oxide and titanium oxide, and an underlying second catalyst bed with an NH3-SCR that supports completely the first layer, and oxidising carbon monoxide and volatile organic compounds in the upper first layer, without affecting ammonia, which is additionally contained in the gas, and reducing the amount of nitrogen oxides in the underlying second catalyst bed by reaction with ammonia.
EFFECT: invention provides effective removal of carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides from flue or exhaust gases.
