SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a composite oxidation catalyst for reducing of content of hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions of exhaust gases and for the oxidation of NO to NO2 from a lean burn engine, comprising: a carrier substrate having a length, an inlet end, and an outlet end, an oxidation catalyst catalytic material on the carrier, the oxidation catalyst catalytic material including a first washcoat layer comprising a first refractory metal oxide support, a platinum (Pt) component and a palladium (Pd) component in a ratio of Pt:Pd in the range of 10: 1 to 1: 10; and a second washcoat layer comprising a second refractory metal oxide support containing Mn in a range of 0.1 to 30 wt%, a zeolite, a Pt component, and optionally a Pd component. Method for treating a diesel engine exhaust stream using said oxidation catalyst composite and a lean burn engine exhaust treatment system comprising such an oxidation catalyst composite are also described.
EFFECT: development of an improved diesel oxidation catalyst, providing an efficient reduction of hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide and improved oxidation of NO to NO2, which leads to increased NO2 content in exhaust gases of a diesel engine, to improved subsequent removal of NOx from the engine, to improved performance of subsequent catalysts for selective catalytic reduction (SCR).
