FIELD: radio engineering and communications.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radio engineering, in particular to transient devices for coupling waveguides of various sizes. Flexible waveguide contains a dielectric waveguide and waveguide transitions from the dielectric waveguide to a metal waveguide of a standard cross section on one side, and to a metal waveguide of a super-dimensional cross section on the other side. Transitions include a section of the waveguide with a smoothly varying cross section of the waveguide channel from the rectangular to a cross-like section in the central part of the waveguide transition, which transforms into a horn expansion for coupling with the dielectric waveguide. Cross section of the dielectric waveguide is equal to the cross section of the vertical part of the cross-like section of the waveguide channel of the metal waveguide segment. In one of the waveguide transitions, the cross section of the waveguide channel from the cross-like one smoothly expands to the rectangular super-dimensional section of the metal waveguide, the cross-sectional area of which at the output of the waveguide transition is determined by a given ratio of the cross-sectional area to the working wavelength lying within the range from 2 to 8 units. Length of the expanding section of the waveguide channel is not less than 6λ, and the section of the dielectric waveguide on this section is made wedge-shaped.
EFFECT: improved harmonization of wave characteristics, reduced losses and simplified design of the flexible waveguide.
