FIELD: physics, communication.
SUBSTANCE: device for generating nano- and sub-nanosecond microwave pulses relates to radio engineering and can be used to generate high-power microwave pulses with nanosecond duration with repetition frequency of the input microsecond microwave pulse, as well as a series of microwave pulses with sub-nanosecond duration within the input pulse, generated in frequency-periodic mode. The device comprises a multimode resonator (1) with an energy (2) input element located at the input end wall thereof, with an energy (3) output element in the form of a smooth transition from the housing of the resonator to an output waveguide (4). The output waveguide (4) is in the form of an oversize rectangular waveguide with a first wall having a dimension a, equal to the dimension of the wide wall of a single-mode standard rectangular waveguide, and an oversize second wall having a dimension d, which satisfies the relationship d=nb<0.2 L, where n=[0.2 L/b] is a number which is the integer part of the relationship 0.2 L/b, b is the dimension of the narrow wall of the single-mode standard rectangular waveguide, L is the length of the resonator, 5λ<L<50λ, λ is the wavelength in free space. An interference microwave switch (5) is in the form of a crossguide in the H plane of the oversize rectangular waveguide, identical to the output waveguide, with straight arms (6) lying on the same line and successively built into the output waveguide, as well as two lateral arms (7, 8), orthogonal to the output waveguide (4). One of the lateral arms (7) is single-connected, has a half-wave length and the gas-discharge tube of the microwave switch (9) located therein is parallel to the oversize wall. The second lateral arm (8) is single-connected and is assembled in the form of a stack of n parallel, tightly adjacent H-branches (11) with half-wave straight input arms (12), short-circuited lateral arms with microwave switches therein, as well as short-circuited output straight arms (14), having a length l, which satisfies the inequality λw<l<L, where λw is the wavelength in the waveguide. Electrodes of each microwave switch are connected to a control signal source.
EFFECT: high power of output pulses and broader functional capabilities of the device.
