SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry, in particular to the control of water quality, containing organic impurities. Method consists in the use of three containers, in the first and the second, the test aqueous solution is placed, and a control aqueous solution is placed in a third container, containing no organic impurities, copper sulfate or ferrous sulfate and a solution of potassium iodide are added to the second and the third containers, determine the amount of iodine released based on the previously constructed calibration relationship between the iodine content in the system and optical density, measured at a wavelength of 285 nm in cuvettes with an optical path length of 50 mm. Coefficient of complexing activity of organic compounds Cca in the water system under study is calculated by the formula: Cca=100-(C2*100/C3), %, where C2 — the amount of iodine released in the second container, containing solution to be analyzed; C3 — the amount of iodine released in the third container, which does not contain organic impurities — distilled water; if Cca is more than 10%, it is concluded that the complexing activity of organic compounds in aqueous solutions is high.
