FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of brominated elastomeric compositions based on isomonoolefins having a stable Mooney viscosity over time. Bromobutyl elastomer composition of the invention comprises a free radical scavenger that is a sterically hindered nitroxyl ether or a nitroxide radical or a combination thereof in an amount of at least 0.05 wt%, and the Mooney viscosity of the composition does not increase by more than 15 up to 40% within 15 days at 80°C. Process for the preparation of such bromobutyl compositions is also provided.
EFFECT: stabilization of the Mooney viscosity of bromobutyl elastomer compositions allows their use in a wide range of rubber products such as sealing layers of tires, diaphragms of a tire vulcanizer, car tire chambers, air duct sleeves and the like.
