FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to stabilization of bromated elastomers in order to eliminate their tendency to increase viscosity in time. Described is a method of improving Mooney stability of a bromated elastomer. Method includes neutralizing the output stream of bromated elastomer with a neutralizing reagent and water to obtain a neutralized effluent containing a hydrocarbon solvent. Solvent is then removed from the neutralized effluent to obtain a bromated elastomer suspension and bromated elastomer is recovered from the bromated elastomer suspension. Stabilizer based on functional amine-containing sterically hindered amine (SHA) and acid absorber are added together or separately before the solvent removal step. Acid absorber contains a protonable atom having a pKa value which exceeds the value of the nitrogen atom contained in the SHA. Bromated elastomer compositions for sealing layers are also described.
EFFECT: technical result is reduction of Mooney magnification of bromated elastomer for a certain period of time, provided by adding a Mooney viscosity stabilizer additive.
