FIELD: environmental protection; ecology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ecology and environmental protection, and more particularly to methods for high temperature processing of carbon-containing wastes. Method for processing of reactor graphite includes grinding and high temperature heating of wastes. To limit transition of carbon and, in particular, its 14C isotope to volatile compounds, processing is carried out in electric arc furnace under inert nitrogen atmosphere under influence of electric arc at a temperature of 2,600–2,650 °C, creating conditions for transition of radionuclides to gaseous phase, except for carbon.
EFFECT: invention allows to create more radiation-proof method for processing of reactor graphite.
