FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of metallurgy; it can be used in the production of steel in electric arc steelmaking furnaces using scrap metal. Scrap metal is loaded onto a furnace hearth, melted, the melt is carbonized, oxidation and reduction periods are carried out. Carbonization of the melt is carried out by blowing into the melt in a nitrogen jet at a pressure of at least 9.0 atm a powdered mixture consisting of serpentine magnesite, magnesite and carbon-containing material in the ratio, respectively (25-30):(10-15):(55-65) with a mixture consumption of 4.0-16.2 kg/t of the weight of the melt, while a fraction of each mixture component is 0.1-3.0 mm.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to reduce the duration of melting by 1.0-1.2 min and electricity consumption by 8-14 kW·h/t, reduce the consumption of electrodes by 0.08-0.12 kg/t, and also increase the durability of the furnace lining up to 1460 melts.
