SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding and decoding of audio signal. Technical result is to enable changing of dynamic range control characteristic. Audio decoder comprises an audio signal processing circuit for receiving a decoded audio signal extracted from a bitstream and adjusting the audio signal characteristic, comprising a plurality of adjustment stages including a dynamic range control stage for adjusting the dynamic range of the audio output signal and a guided clipping prevention stage for preventing clipping of the output audio signal; and a metadata decoder for receiving a metadata bitstream and extracting a dynamic range control gain sequence and a guided clipping prevention gain sequence from the metadata bitstream.

EFFECT: invention provides a concept for combined dynamic range compression and guided clipping prevention for audio devices.
