FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: device for fractional separation of powders of boron carbide includes a flotation chamber, an inlet pipe for the input substance, outlet pipes and separation product collection vessels. The base of the flotation chamber is connected to a hydrocyclone chamber equipped with an inlet nozzle in which an ultrasonic radiator is mounted. In the upper part of the cavity of the hydrocyclone chamber there is a discharge pipe connected to the aeration chamber located in the cavity of the cylindrical flotation cell. The aeration chamber is connected to a vertical cross-shaped partition. The apparatus is used to carry out a process for fractional separation of powders of boron carbide, including disaggregation and classification of the substance. A preliminary aqueous suspension of boron carbide is subjected to ultrasonic disaggregation in the inlet pipe, then a treated boron suspension is sent to the hydrocyclone chamber, large particles having an increased mass are withdrawn, and the remaining mass is sent to a cylindrical flotation cell. The mass is divided into fractions and a fraction of boron carbide with a particle size of not more than 10 mcm and a low fraction content of up to 1 mcm is separated from the middle stream and the flotation product is discharged with a top stream in the form of a fraction of microporous boron carbide with a high particle content of up to 1 mcm and an increased content of nanoparticles.

EFFECT: increase in the yield of a fraction of a boron carbide powder with a particle size of not more than 10 mcm and an increased content of nanoscale particles.
