FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for fabricating information signs, as well as in military and space equipment. Retroreflective material comprises an upper light-transmitting protective layer with an image on its rear side, and a sealing layer in the form of a grid with cells with a plurality of retroreflective balls partially embedded in the polymeric bonding layer. Upper protective and bonding layers are interconnected so that an air layer forms above the surface of the balls. There is a focusing layer on the back hemisphere of the balls. It has a metallized reflecting surface, made in the form of a two-layer polyimide film, the thickness of which corresponds to the focal length of the balls. During the fabrication process, the polyimide film on the back hemisphere of the balls is heated by infrared radiation and exposed to ultrasonic vibrations for its softening and compacting. Apparatus is provided with a device for removing excess balls after their application, made in the form of a slit ejector nozzle with the possibility of adjusting its position relative to the surface of the balls and connected to the cyclone collector.
EFFECT: increase of retroreflective capability, stability in operation in difficult atmospheric conditions as well as simplification of the technological process.
