FIELD: chemistry; metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the preparation of an ultrafine powder of metallic cobalt. Method comprises heat treating an oxygen-containing cobalt compound in a gaseous medium. Preliminary aqueous solution of oxalate or cobalt nitrate is treated with a solution of sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide at pH 8–12 in the presence of carbon black, calculated as oxide in the ratio Co3O4÷C=1÷4 obtain an oxygen-containing cobalt compound in the form of a precipitate of cobalt hydroxide which is washed, filtered and dried. Heat treatment of cobalt hydroxide is carried out by microwave radiation in an argon flow with a feed rate of 5–6 l/h at a frequency of 2450–3000 MHz and a power of 700–1000 W at a temperature of 900 C for 15 minutes at a heating rate of 20 C/min up to 500 C and 10 °C/min up to 900 C.
EFFECT: provides the production of ultrafine powder with highly developed surface activity.
