FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of experimental hydromechanics, in particular to methods for creating artificial waves within an electroconductive fluid (wavemakers). Method is proposed for exciting internal waves in electrically conductive stratified fluids by creating a disturbing pycnocline directed liquid flow, the perturbing pycnocline flow of the liquid has a sign-alternating direction (up and down) due to the Ampere force arising from the interaction of the alternating current flowing between the electrodes installed in parallel on the inner side of the side walls of the basin, with the magnetic field of a permanent magnet mounted on the outside of the end wall of the pool.
EFFECT: reduction of nonlinear distortions of internal waves and reduction of energy consumption.
