FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a medical technique, namely to apparatus for stapling tissue. Apparatus includes an anvil and a trocar selectively coupled with the anvil. Anvil has body, inner opening, first plurality of staple pockets and second plurality of staple pockets. Body is disc-shaped. Inner opening is formed in a disc-shaped body. First plurality of staple pockets is disposed along the upper surface of the disc-shaped body. Second plurality of staple pockets is disposed along the bottom surface of the disc-shaped body. In this case, the anvil is adapted to be inserted through the lumen of the body. Trocar includes a shaft and a locking assembly. Locking assembly has folded and expanded positions. Locking assembly is designed to secure the anvil in position relative to the trocar when the locking assembly is in the expanded position.
EFFECT: use of the invention contributes to the creation of a universal anvil that can be attached to the trocar with any of its sides.
