SUBSTANCE: method for processing images and video frames comprises the steps of: receiving low resolution images; determining the context and conditions for shooting images and selecting a dictionary; dalculating the matrix of the low-resolution image transformation; calculating the low-resolution image sampling mask; combining the low-resolution images using a transformation matrix and a sampling mask to generate a high-resolution image; calculating the value of a predetermined stop criterion and comparing the calculated value of the said stop criterion to the threshold value; splitting the high-resolution image into intersecting patches of various shapes; calculating the sparse approximation of the extracted patches using the specified vocabulary and the sampling mask; forming a new high-resolution image from the results of the sparse approximation of the overlapping patches; upgrading the low-resolution images based on the result of the sparse approximation using the transformation matrix; specifying the transformation matrix on the basis of the updated low-resolution images.
