SUBSTANCE: in accordance with the invention, it is provided that at least two of sub modules (31, 32) are connected in series to form multi module (30), wherein in the charge phases and discharge phases of multi module (30), one of the switches of each sub (31, 32) is turned off and the corresponding other switch of each sub module (31, 32) is turned on and multi module (30) has control device (33) connected to central device (20), which controls sub modules (31, 32) of multi module (30) in accordance with control signals (T1, T2) of central device (20), wherein control device (33) is configured such that it monitors the capacitor voltages of sub modules (31, 32) and, in the case of the asymmetry of the capacitor voltages, causes symmetrization in such a way that it is in sub modules (31) with a capacitor voltage too low in comparison with the capacitor voltage of remaining sub modules (32) of multi module (30) one phase of blocking (Tv), at which first and second switches (S11, S21) are simultaneously turned off.
EFFECT: invention relates to multilevel converter (10) with a plurality of series-connected sub modules (31, 32), which respectively have first switch (S11, S21), second switch (S12, S22) and capacitor (C1, C2), and in the discharge phase, the current is discharged by the capacitor, and in the charge phase, the current is taken to charge the capacitor and central device (20) for controlling the operation of multilevel converter (10).
