FIELD: testing equipment.
SUBSTANCE: suggested invention relates to a testing technique, in particular to methods for testing structural materials for strength over a wide range of low temperatures. In practice, the proposed invention can be used to determine the mechanical characteristics of bench tests for tearing material samples at cryogenic temperatures. Method makes it possible to observe and fix the process of fracture and development of cracks in the materials of samples cooled by special coolants (liquefied gases). Existing methods of bench acoustic emission measurements at cryogenic temperatures require the availability of specialized expensive equipment, consisting mainly of a universal stretching machine and a cryostat (cryochambers) of complex design. In this case, there are difficulties in carrying out the experiment in laboratory conditions, not equipped with special equipment. Proposed method for determining the mechanical characteristics of materials at cryogenic temperatures is carried out with the help of additional equipment – a special device called "built-in cryothermos", that is assembled directly on the sample for the experiment. Special design of the built-in cryothermos and the procedure for the experiment allow maintaining a constant temperature value at the location of the alleged fracture of the sample (the concentrator sample) corresponding to the temperature of the coolant.
EFFECT: method for determining the mechanical characteristics of materials at cryogenic temperatures is proposed.
