FIELD: machine engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to sealing equipment and utilised in stem packing of medium and high-pressure piston compressors operating at medium and high-pressure differentials with lubricant, with limited lubrication and without lubrication of cylinders and seals. Packing element of stem packing follower contains at least one chamber (1), in which first and second split rings are arranged (4, 5), the parts of which are braced by springs (7), the first and second non-split support rings (2, 3) which are installed on both sides of the split rings (4, 5) and made of material that is stronger than material of the split rings. Between the first and second split rings (4, 5) there is a third split ring (6), the parts of which are tightened by a spring (7). The split rings (4, 5, 6) are made for sealing. The sections of the sealing rings (4, 5, 6) are overlapped and offset relative to each other in angular direction. On each support ring (2, 3), on the side facing the split ring (4, 5) is provided with concentric projection whose outer surface (10) is completely embraced by recess (9) of adjacent split ring (4, 5).

EFFECT: invention increases sealing of the stem packing sealing element.
