FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for manufacturing an optical waveguide. Method of manufacturing an optical waveguide with a "comb" structure with low coupling losses between an optical waveguide and an optical fiber. Method includes the following steps in which an optical waveguide is provided on a surface of a dielectric substrate having first end (A) and second end (B) opposite first end (A), then cut out two parallel notches (R1, R2) separated by a distance wr, on the surface of a dielectric substrate to produce an optical waveguide with a "comb" structure of width wr, protruding between two notches (R1, R2). Cutting is carried out so that the depth of each notch (R1, R2) continuously and gradually changes from the zero depth to the level of the first end of the optical waveguide configured to receive the optical fiber, up to the maximum depth (Hm) at a predetermined distance (Ip) from the first end of the optical waveguide, the depth change of each notch (R1, R2) forms a vertical transition zone of the optical mode of length (Ip) between an optical waveguide with a "comb" structure and an optical fiber.
EFFECT: technical result consists in manufacturing a waveguide with a "comb" structure with small losses of coupling between a waveguide with a "comb" structure and a conventional optical waveguide.
