FIELD: oil and gas industry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a fluid bed coking apparatus for converting a heavy petroleum feedstock to a lower boiling point product by thermal fluidized bed cracking and to fluid bed coking method embodiments. Proposed installation includes reactor having a coking zone comprising a fluidized bed of solid particles into which a heavy oil feed is introduced; scrubbing zone located above the coking zone into which the vapor phase product from the coking zone passes; stripping zone located at the bottom of the coking zone to distill at least a portion of the hydrocarbons attached to the solid particles passing into the stripping zone from the coking zone; heater connected to a stripping zone for receiving solid particles from the bottom of the stripping zone; pipeline for passing a portion of the hot solid particles from the heater to the coking zone; recirculation pipeline for recirculating a portion of the hot solids from the heater to the stripping zone; and annular baffle having a centrally located hole in the upper part of the stripping zone for slowing the recirculation of solids from the stripping zone to the coking zone, where an annular partition with a centrally located aperture has no other openings except for this central hole, and the recirculation conduit has an outlet located at the top of the stripping zone below the annular partition with a centrally located opening and above the canopies of the stripping zone.

EFFECT: invention allows to increase either the yield of the liquid product or the productivity of the coking process.
