SUBSTANCE: apparatus comprises a housing having an inlet for receiving containers disposed above the outlet opening, a rotating cutting tool that provides opening of the containers and extending along the axis of rotation between the lower and upper ends of the cutting tool, the cutting tool being rotatably mounted at its upper end and its lower end being free inside the housing. Device also comprises drive means for driving the cutting tool into rotation, the cutting tool has a starting position from which it can be displaced while continuing to perform its function of opening the containers, and seeks to spontaneously return to its original position under the action of returnable funds. Invention is also a method of opening containers, carried out by the above-described device.
