FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to use of nalmefene in the treatment of alcohol dependence in a patient with alcohol dependence, where said use reduces alcohol consumption, wherein the patient has a high drinking risk level (DRL) of >60 g/day of pure alcohol for men and >40 g/day for women; and said patient maintains a high DRL of >60 g/day of pure alcohol for men and >40 g/day for women, after an observation period following initial assessment of 1–2 weeks.
EFFECT: said use reduces alcohol consumption.
