FIELD: textile and paper.
SUBSTANCE: rope (1) is designed for use during operation and has a multi-strand structure composed by pivoting a plurality of lateral strands (3), each of which is formed by punching together a plurality of wires (3a, 3b) around core (2) formed by knitting a plurality of wires (2a, 2b, 2c, 2d) together. Rope (1) is characterized in that side wire (3b) of lateral strand (3) faces rope (1) outward in a radial direction at a location on the outer circumference of rope (1), and has flatten (P) in which flat portion (F) provided in the portion of side wire (3b) extends in the direction of the X axis, the axial length of flatten (P) is 4.8–11.0 times the diameter of side wire (3b), and the step multiplying factor in lateral strand (3) is from 7.0 to 12.0, the step multiplication factor is a value obtained by dividing the length of the side strand pitch by the outside diameter of the rope.
EFFECT: as a result of the foregoing, it becomes possible to suppress the appearance of directional noise when moving along a groove when the direction-changing member and the rope slide over each other, and suppress the decrease in fatigue strength of the rope.
