SUBSTANCE: electric appliance containing an ironing and/or smoothing device for holding in the hand and a portable base having a surface for mounting an ironing and/or smoothing device, wherein the base is provided with at least one locking member pivotable between a folded position in which said ironing and/or smoothing device can be removed from the base, and a fixation position in which the ironing and/or smoothing device is fixed to the base by the locking member, characterized in that the base is provided with return means which exerts a torque on said locking member, the direction of which is reversed when passing through an intermediate position between the fixation position and the folded position, wherein said torque provided by the return means allows movement of the locking member to the folded position when the locking member is in the first angular range enclosed between the intermediate position and the folded position, and allows movement the locking member to the fixation position when the locking member is in the second angular range enclosed between the intermediate position and the fixation position.
