SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for the preparation of hydroprocessing catalysts for petroleum fractions having a boiling point higher than 360 °C to produce a feedstock with a low sulfur and nitrogen content, which is further processed in the hydrocracking process. Catalyst is prepared by impregnating a carrier which contains, by mass.%: aluminum borate Al₃BO₆ with the structure of norbergite – 5.0–25.0; sodium is – not more then 0.03; γ-Al₂O₃ – rest; an aqueous solution simultaneously containing a bimetallic complex compound [Ni(H₂O)₂]₂[Mo₄O₁₁(C₆H₅O₇)₂] and boric acid in concentrations that provide a catalyst comprising, mass.%: [Ni(H₂O)₂]₂[Mo₄O₁₁(C₆H₅O₇)₂] 29.0–36.0; boron in the form of surface compounds characterized by absorption bands 930–1040, 1230, 1385–1450 and 3695 cm^-1 in the IR spectra 0.4–1.6; carrier – the rest. Impregnation of the carrier is carried out using a moisture capacity, or from an excess solution, while impregnation is carried out at a temperature of 20–80 °C for 20–60 minutes with stirring. After impregnation, the catalyst is dried. Catalyst has a specific surface area of 130–180 m²/g, a pore volume of 0.35–0.65 cm³/g, an average pore diameter of 10–15 nm, and is a particle with a section in the form of a circle, trefoil or quatrefoil.

EFFECT: preparation of a catalyst having the maximum activity in the desulfurization and denitrogenation reactions occurring during the hydroprocessing petroleum fractions with a boiling point above 360 °C.
