SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to compositions of iron-based alloys, which can be used in moderately loaded clutches, brakes and other devices. Iron-based alloy comprises, wt.%: carbon 5.0–5.5; silicon 1.3–1.7; manganese 0.8–1.2; chromium 0.1–0.2; nickel 0.6–1.0; phosphorus 0.1–0.3; hafnium 4.4–5.0; boron 0.7–1.1; iron – balance.
EFFECT: alloy is characterized by high hardness.
