SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the processing of banknotes using devices that read and recognize the serial numbers of banknotes. In the method, the serial numbers of banknotes are read and recognized, they form an information network, including local information networks and their global information network. Serial numbers of processed banknotes are compared with stored banknote serial numbers for processing control. Define several classes that characterize, respectively, at least one property of banknotes and correlate, at least one class with one or more serial numbers of banknotes. If the number of the banknote being processed is the same as the number, correlated with the class of “criminal” banknotes, the banknote is returned to the bearer. In this case, the appearance of the bearer is fixed. Form a class of serial numbers, characterizing banknotes, at the disposal of the operator performing the processing. When stealing banknotes, these numbers replenish the numbers of "criminal" banknotes. Processing of banknotes according to the claimed method allows the possibility of participation in the implementation of the method of persons not directly involved in servicing the flow of banknotes.

EFFECT: technical result is the reliability of banknote recognition.
