FIELD: nuclear medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a reactor technology for the production of radionuclides for nuclear medicine. Method is based on irradiation in a thermal neutron flux of a nuclear target reactor containing thorium-228 radionuclide, and the radioactive decay product of radium-224, which is in equilibrium with it. As a result of the radiation capture reaction, radium-224 nuclei form and accumulate radium-225. After the end of irradiation, the radium fraction is isolated radiochemically from the irradiated target and the resulting material is used to produce a radiochemical generator radium-225/actinium-225, for the purpose of subsequent isolation of the target radionuclide.
EFFECT: technical result is the ability to provide large-scale work on the production of actinium-225 on reactors with a relatively low thermal neutron flux density.
