SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for driving downhole devices. In particular, there is provided a driving method and an apparatus for carrying it out, in which pressure or flow sensor (2, 3) receives a pressure or flow rate signal for processing fluid injected through the drill string. Controller (4) supplied with energy from power supply (5), monitors measured pressure (2) or flow (3) in the first time window and activates first downhole tool (8) or its operating mode by means of movable member (7) if measured pressure (2) or flow rate (3) is stable in this time window. In addition, controller (4) performs monitoring of measured pressure (2) or flow (3) in the second time window and activates a second downhole tool or a second mode of operation of first downhole tool (8) if measured pressure (2) or flow rate (3) is stable in this time window. In one embodiment, measured pressure (2) is combined with the signal from rotation sensor (6) receiving the rotation signal of the drill string. Controller (4) records the initial injection and rotation time. Earliest of the initial times determines which mode of operation or which downhole tool should be activated.
EFFECT: providing fast and accurate actuation of multiple downhole tools without the use of additional means, such as balls or radio frequency tags.
