SUBSTANCE: invention relates to carbodiimides having terminal urethane groups of formula (I), which can be used to protect ester polymers from hydrolysis. In formula (I), radicals R can be identical or different and is selected from groups of -NHCOOR^III-, where R^III is (C₁-C₂₂)-alkyl, (C₆-C₁₂)-cycloalkyl or corresponds to an alkoxypolyoxyalkylene radical, R¹, R² and R³ each independently, is methyl or ethyl, wherein each benzene ring having only one methyl group, n=0–20.
