FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing bis[3-isopropenyl-α,α-dimethylbenzyl]carbodiimide, which can be used as a hydrolytic protection agent in systems based on polyurethanes. Method consists in that 3-isopropenyl-α,α-dimethylbenzyl isocyanate is subjected to carbodiimidation in presence of 1–5 wt. % of basic cesium salts at temperatures in range of 160 to 220 °C.
EFFECT: disclosed method enables to obtain bis[3-isopropenyl-α,α-dimethylbenzyl]carbodiimide with high output and without content of organic compounds of phosphorus.
