SUBSTANCE: invention relates to telemetry used in the exploration and production of oil and gas. In particular, there is provided a method for processing a signal in hydropulse telemetry, comprising: processing a received acoustic signal comprising a plurality of waveforms, wherein each of the plurality of waveforms corresponds to a representation of a sequence of pulses spanning a time period, which is divided into an integer number of positions of the signal element; selecting one or more of a plurality of waveforms differing by not more than one position of the signal element with respect to the adjacent waveform from a plurality of waveforms; mapping each of the selected one or more of the plurality of waveforms to a symbol value based on the width of the pulse and the start of the pulse of the corresponding pulse train presentation; reading the message using the symbol value for each character in the character string; and changing the drilling configuration according to the message. Apparatus for implementing said method is also disclosed.

EFFECT: technical result is an increase in the data transfer rate of hydropulse telemetry, as well as a decrease in the bit error rate at the receiver.
