FIELD: drilling operations.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of data transmission between a downhole tool and a surface. In particular, a method for underground data transmission is proposed, including: generation of the first electromagnetic signal encoding the first data to be transmitted in the first well tool in the first well; detection of the first electromagnetic signal in a receiver in a communication well that is different and located at a distance from the first well, while the receiver contains many electrodes; and delivery in the receiver of the detected first electromagnetic signal or the first data extracted from the detected first electromagnetic signal to the equipment located higher up the wellbore relatively to the receiver. The detection of the first electromagnetic signal includes measuring the time-varying potential difference between a pair of multiple electrodes. The specified detection of the first electromagnetic signal in the receiver is carried out in each of many pairs of multiple electrodes. In addition, the method includes an assessment of the quality of the first electromagnetic signal detected in each of many pairs of multiple electrodes, and, based on the specified quality, one of pairs is selected and used to detect the first electromagnetic signal. A system for underground data transmission for the implementation of the specified method is also disclosed.
EFFECT: technical result is an expansion of the arsenal of technical means for data transmission and an increase in the reliability of communication between the downhole tool and the surface in order to ensure efficient drilling operations.
