FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the preparation of oleic acid hydroxamide which can be used as a surfactant or additive for modifying the surface of stabilized zirconia particles. Proposed method involves the formation of ethyl ester of oleic acid by dissolving pure oleic acid in ethyl alcohol with stirring and heating to 40 °C, cooling the resulting solution to room temperature, adding to it dropwise thionyl chloride in an amount of 1–2 ml per 100 ml of alcohol, then boiling the reaction mass to form two immiscible layers, separation of the ether layer, washing it with water until neutral, dissolving in benzene, drying, filtration and distillation under vacuum. Isolated oleic acid ethyl ester is then mixed with a cooled ethanol solution obtained from solutions of hydroxylamine hydrochloride and potassium hydroxide, and the formed potassium salt of oleic acid hydroxamide is treated with a dilute aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid at a temperature of 70–80 °C for 4 hours, cooled to room temperature, extracted with chloroform, dried, evaporated in vacuo and oleic acid hydroxamide isolated.
EFFECT: proposed method is simple and effective; the yield of oleic acid hydroxamide is 82 %.
