FIELD: nanotechnologies.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nanotechnology and can be used in production of polymer composites. Carbon nanotubes are oxidized with a mixture of nitric and sulfuric acids with formation of carboxyl functional groups, covalently bound to their surface. Then, carbon nanotubes with an oxidized surface are further treated first with pentavalent phosphorus oxide, and then ammonia in excess at 250–280 °C.
EFFECT: carbon nanotubes modified with imide functional groups with a hydrogen radical substituting a radical, grafted to their surface, which can be used as a nanomodifier of epoxy polymer matrices, increasing such mechanical properties, as fracture strength, elastic constant, tension strain.
