Performance and environmental protection in virtual radio access networks (VRANs) can be improved by unloading data traffic and / or control signaling between the physical transmission points (TPs) of the virtual TP. This may allow one or more physical TPs of the virtual TP to stop operating in the direction of the downlink or uplink transmission channel, thereby reducing power consumption. Unloading can be performed for relatively short time intervals in such a way that the physical TP stops operating for one or more transmission time intervals (TTI) before reactivation. Unloading can also be performed for longer time intervals, in accordance with the traffic management policy (TE). In addition, it is possible to reactivate the deactivated downlink transmission channel of the physical TP by tracking wireless signals through the activated physical TP receiver.
