FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radio communications. Terminal in a radio telecommunication system selects a first relay node from a plurality of relay stations and controls a transmitter and a receiver for exchanging signals with a base station through a first relay node; measures a signal characteristic associated with the first relay node and compares the value of the measured signal characteristic with a predetermined threshold value; if the value of the measured signal characteristic is greater than a given threshold value, controls the transmitter and receiver to continue signalling with the base station through the first relay node; if the value of the measured signal characteristic is less than a given threshold value, performs a procedure which enables to select from a set of several relay nodes a second relay node through which the transmitter and receiver can exchange signals with the base station.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of procedure for selection of relay node.
