SUBSTANCE: dust collector for a vacuum cleaner is proposed containing the first cyclone, installed in the first casing for separating dust and discharging the separated dust into the first dust storage unit; the second cyclone, installed above the first cyclone to separate fine dust from air after the first cyclone and discharge the separated fine dust to the second dust storage unit. Device contains a compressing device that performs normal rotation in one direction and reverse rotation along an outer peripheral surface of the second casing, enclosing the second dust storage unit for compressing dust stored in the first dust storage unit. Device contains a screw located above the compressing device, containing a guide vane passing in a spiral along its outer periphery to direct dust collection to the first dust storage unit. Device contains a lead unit for transmitting a driving force to the compressing device to ensure selectively the normal and reverse rotation of the compressing device.

EFFECT: device includes a gear set between the compressing device and the screw to ensure normal and reverse rotation by the screw.
